Description

Ammonium chloride is an inorganic chemical compound with the chemical formula NH4Cl, also written as [NH4]Cl. It is an ammonium salt of hydrogen chloride. It comprises ammonium cations [NH4]+ and chloride anions Cl−. It is a white crystalline salt that is highly soluble in water. Solutions of ammonium chloride are mildly acidic. In its naturally occurring mineralogic form, it is known as salammoniac. The mineral is commonly formed in burning coal dumps from the condensation of coal-derived gases. It is also found around some types of volcanic vents. It is mainly used as fertilizer and a flavouring agent in some types of licorice. It is a product of the reaction of hydrochloric acid and ammonia.

Application

1. Promote ion transfer

Ammonium chloride is an electrolyte that forms ions when dissolved in water: NH4Cl → NH4+ + Cl-. These ions impure the transfer between electrons and ions during the battery discharge process, so the battery can work stably.

2. Adjust the battery voltage

Different electrolytes have different effects on the level produced by the battery. In the zinc-manganese dry battery, adding ammonium chloride can effectively regulate the battery voltage so that the battery has a higher potential.

3. Prevent premature failure

The zinc-manganese dry battery will produce hydrogen during the discharge process. When the hydrogen is transferred to the anode, it will hinder the transmission of current and directly affect the stability of the battery. The presence of ammonium chloride prevents hydrogen molecules from accumulating in the electrolyte and being excreted, thus extending the battery’s life.

Textile Printing and Dyeing

One of the main functions of ammonium chloride in dyeing is as a mordant. Mordant refers to the substance that can promote the interaction between the dye and the fiber, so that the dye can better adhere to the surface of the fiber. Ammonium chloride has good mordant properties, which can strengthen the interaction between dyes and fibers and improve the adhesion and firmness of dyes. This is because the ammonium chloride molecule contains chloride ions, which can form ionic bonds or electrostatic forces with the cationic part of the dye molecule to enhance the binding force between the dye and the fiber. In addition, ammonium chloride can also form ionic bonds with the cationic part of the fiber surface, further improving the adhesion of the dye. Therefore, the addition of ammonium chloride can significantly improve the dyeing effect.

Agricultural nitrogen fertilizer(Agricultural grade)

It can be applied as nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture, and its nitrogen content is 24%-25%, which is a physiological acidic fertilizer, and can be used as base fertilizer and topdressing. It is suitable for wheat, rice, corn, rape and other crops, especially for cotton and hemp crops, which has the effect of enhancing fiber toughness and tension and improving quality.
